Chronos Vocal Ensemble
Founded in 2013 by Jordan Van Biert, Chronos Vocal Ensemble has gained a national reputation for innovation and excellence. The ensemble has delighted audiences in Edmonton, on tours in four provinces, and at Podium and ACDA conferences. Chronos has been recognized in Edmonton’s Salute to Excellence, and with the Healey Willan Grand Prize in the National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs.
A champion of new Canadian choral music, Chronos has commissioned composers including Andrew Balfour, Marie-Claire Saindon, Matthew Emery, Katerina Gimon, Nicholas Ryan Kelly, and Stuart Beatch. The fourth Chronos album, Resolve, was recorded under pandemic restrictions and released in 2023, featuring music of eight Canadian composers.
Collaborators have included the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Alberta Baroque Ensemble, Edmonton Youth Choir, University of Alberta Madrigal Singers, and Spiritus Chamber Choir (Calgary). Chronos recordings are regularly featured on choral & classical radio broadcasts including CBC’s Choral Concert.
Conductor Jordan Van Biert unites singers in the common goal of creating rich musical experiences – for themselves, for each other, and for audiences. He is a recipient of the Con Spirito award from Choir Alberta, for “spirit, dedication, and commitment to choral music in the Province of Alberta.”
