Les Décibels

Les Décibels is a francophone community choir based in Victoria. For over three decades, it has brought together singing enthusiasts from all backgrounds who wish to share their love of music and the French language within the local francophone community.

Founded nearly 35 years ago, the choir has gone through several stages in its history. After a difficult period marked by declining membership and a pause in activities during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was revitalized with energy by its conductor Casey Edmunds, who gave it a new artistic and community direction.

Today, the ensemble has more than thirty choristers and continues to grow in a predominantly English-speaking environment. Members, both beginners and experienced singers, meet regularly to rehearse, learn to sing in harmony, and prepare concerts for the public.

Les Décibels actively participates in Victoria’s francophone cultural life, particularly through community events and festive concerts. Their repertoire blends traditional songs, Christmas classics, and contemporary works, offering audiences warm and accessible musical moments for everyone.

Beyond music, the choir plays an important role in promoting and sustaining the French language in the region. It provides a space where francophones and francophiles can come together, sing, and celebrate their culture collectively.
