Steven Bélanger
For over twenty-five years, Steven Bélanger has enjoyed close ties to the Canadian choral community as both an administrator and a performer. Since 2011 he has been the senior manager of the Vancouver Chamber Choir, Canada’s longest-running fully professional choir, most recently in the position of Executive Director. Under his leadership, the choir has expanded its educational and community engagement activities, has successfully navigated its first artistic leadership transition since it was founded in 1971, and has grown its fundraising and revenue-generating initiatives to ensure a more stable and sustainable financial position. In that time he has also helped to produce seven recordings and has organized fifteen domestic and international tours for the ensemble in addition to its busy performance schedule at home.
Prior to his arrival in Vancouver Steven held administrative positions with the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal, the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal and La Scena Musicale, as well as contract positions with CBC Radio and Union des Artistes. He holds degrees from Queen’s University and McGill University and has extensive performance experience with groups of all sizes and genres across Canada as a soloist and an ensemble singer.
