Call for Student Research Poster Session
The PODIUM 2024 Planning Committee invites the submission of proposals for the presentation of Student Research Posters.
A range of topics related to choral music and group singing will be considered, including (but not limited to) conducting and rehearsal strategies, choral/vocal music education, health and well-being, social justice, community music, choral repertoire, performance and artistic practices, composition/music creation, arts administration/management, technology, and interdisciplinarity of choral/group singing with other fields of study.
Presentations exploring promising research, as well as those inclusive of diverse singing traditions and practices, are highly encouraged. Participation in the PODIUM 2024 conference and festival is an excellent opportunity for students to showcase previous and on-going research projects, while also networking with their peers and colleagues in the choral and group-singing communities.
When and where
The PODIUM 2024’s Student Research Poster Session will be presented in person at the Delta Hotel Marriott in Montreal on Sunday, May 19. The event will be 90 minutes in duration. Presenters will be expected to be present with their poster during this time and to engage in conversation about their research with other delegates.
For students who would like to present but are unable to attend PODIUM 2024 in person, there will be the option to submit a 15-20 minute recorded presentation with a visual of your poster (on screen or via a QR code). The recording will be shared with all delegates at PODIUM 2024 with access for 6 months. In-person presenters are also welcome to create a recording.
Application Process
Proposals must be submitted by April 5, 2024, via the APPLICATION FORM and must including the following:
Description of research topic (max 250 words)
Abstract/description to appear in conference program (max 50 words)
Brief biography (max 150 words)
Headshot of presenter (high quality jpg) - image used for marketing purposes only
Academic affiliation (for information purposes only to confirm student status)
Information about co-presenter, if applicable
Requirements
PODIUM 2024 strongly encourages the submission of proposals from both Choral Canada Student Chapter members and non-members.
It is understood that Choral Canada, Alliance chorale du Québec and the Podium Planning Committee assume no financial responsibility for travel, food or accommodation for the in-person presenter.
The submission of a proposal implies that, if invited, the in-person presenter is prepared to travel to and present at the PODIUM 2024 Conference & Festival at their own expense. They must also be a registered in-person delegate (full conference pass or day-pass on Sunday May 19). If invited to do a recording, the presenter is prepared to provide their recording by latest Monday, May 13, 2024. They must also be a registered in-person or virtual PODIUM 2024 delegate.
Future Opportunities
Your research will be supported after the conference with a publication in Choral Canada’s journal Anacrusis. The format of the article will be discussed with each student. This opportunity is for both in-person and virtual presenters.
We encourage students to present their research at other conferences and if they wish to have their article that was published in Anacrusis published in another journal, they can send a request to Choral Canada.
